macOS Support Essentials 10.13 is a three-day course featuring Apple’s official syllabus and hands-on labs. The course equips you with the skills and experience needed to support Macs at work or college. Study at one of our training centres in London or Manchester, or on-site at your own offices. Certifying as an Apple Certified Support Professional (ACSP)

To certify as an ACSP, you’ll need to pass macOS Support Essentials exam. The exam is multi-choice and lasts 90 minutes. It is not compulsory, so if you want to certify, please add the exam to your order.

Course overview

Day one

Starting from the beginning, we’ll teach you how to install and configure macOS, covering setup, managing software updates, creating and managing user accounts and file system security.

Day two

On day two, we’ll look in more detail at usage management including permissions, system resources, compression and backup solutions and application and document management.

Day three

On the final day, we extend your knowledge beyond one Mac by introducing you to networking Apple computers including basic networking theory, configuration and troubleshooting. We wrap the course up with a collection of system troubleshooting modules.

Course prerequisites

While this is an introductory or entry-level course, a certain amount of prior knowledge will greatly enhance the effectiveness of the course. For example:

  • The material assumes you have a basic understanding of macOS skills and terminology
  • It’s advisable to have either an IT background or some basic computer troubleshooting knowledge
  • Prior attendance of either or both of Getting Started with macOS or Mac Integration Basics is ideal

macOS Support Essentials is the best way of studying for and achieving formal certification in supporting Apple’s macOS operating system. Basic networking configuration, TCP/IP networking, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, multiple network connections, appropriate use of network locations, isolating and troubleshooting network elements and using VPN.

Network Services

Connecting to common network resources, SMB, AFP, NFS, WebDAV and FTP connections, Bonjour, NetBIOS, the network browser, isolating client software issues from network issues. VNC and SSH, Remote management, Enabling network services on a macOS High Sierra client, peer-to-peer collaboration, AirDrop, Firewall as well as techniques to isolate server issues from client and network issues.

System Management

Connecting peripherals to a Mac, cabling, connections, device drivers for common peripherals. Troubleshooting boot issues with a Mac at startup, phases of the startup process, which part of the system is active during each phase, issues that can arise, automatic process launching with launchd and login window startup items.
