Quick Tip: How to open System Preferences quickly
If like me you regularly access System Preferences to change settings then the following tip may help you open System Preferences quicker.
Open System Preferences using Keyboard Shortcuts:
On your keyboard use ALT + F2, which opens up the Display system pane. Then use CMD + L, which will change from the Display system pane to the main System Preferences.
Open System Preferences using Spotlight:
On your keyboard use CMD + SPACE to display the Spotlight search (top-right menubar) where you can simply type the keyword sys which should then display and select System Preferences, and then hit the RETURN key to open.

Thanks Anton!
It’s puzzling why Apple has never programmed in a keyboard shortcut for System Preferences.
Thank you. It is possible to create a custom keyboard shortcut to open System Preferences directly to the main screen of system panes as per the MacWorld article below…

…However I’m reluctant to create custom shortcuts because inevitably they will conflict with either a System or Application shortcut with usually undesirable results.
