Create direct links to iOS pref panes

One of the few annoying things about iOS is that if you want to change a system preference, say toggle Bluetooth, there are quite a few screens you have to tap through before you get to the actual preference you want to change.

But now we have a great hint that can take you directly to a specific preference pane.

It turns out there are specific URL’s you can enter that take you directly to a specific preference pane. These are listed below.

To use them just enter these as normal URLs into Safari for instance and immediately you are taken to that specific preference pane. By using something like “IconProject” you can add them as custom icons on the spring board and gain easy access to specific preferences you are interested in. For instance I now have links to WIFI and Bluetooth.

  • You can also do this with the iPhone Configuration Utility by creating a configuration profile containing web clips, these can have custom icons. You can also add short cuts to phone numbers and sms messages using tel:// and sms://

Thats a strange one. Make sure the urls you are entering are case sensitive.
      For example
      prefs:root=General&path=Bluetooth

If you still get no joy, try iPhone Configuration Utility from Apple. You can grab it from their support page. This lets you create web clips which are the same thing. This is a Mac OS X / Windows app.

      Cheers

      Richard
