DVSP 101: An Introduction To DVD Studio 4

This three-day hands-on course delves into the world of DVD authoring using DVD Studio Pro 4. In this comprehensive course, candidates will learn everything they need to create a professional DVD title. This course guides trainees through every aspect of DVD authoring, from initial storyboarding to burning and replication.

Using compelling media and a real-world production workflow, students will learn how to create amazing MPEG 2 video with Compressor as well as create eye-popping motion menus directly in DVD Studio Pro 4. Students will also “author” a DVD by creating buttons, interactive links, slideshows, playlists and even adding alternate audio stream and camera angles.

This course is designed for those that want to learn the basics of how to author professional quality DVDs using DVD Studio Pro 4.

This course includes an Apple Pro Certification Exam.

Course Outline - the DVDSP 101 covers all these lessons over the 2 day duration of the course:

1) Preparing Your First DVD Project - DVD creation process, the DVD specification, exploring the interface, creating a simple DVD in basic view, creating a menu, connecting assets to the menu, simulating a disc, building and burning a disc.

2) Exploring The Full Interface - Opening the project, exploring window configurations, adjusting the project.

3) Setting Up A Simple DVD - Storyboarding your DVD, creating the Swiss Storyboard using the graphical tab, previewing the finished project with Apple's DVD player, identifying source video settings, setting DVD Studio Pro settings, setting up disc properties, importing video and audio files, setting chapter markers, simulating your project.

4) Creating Menus Within DVD Studio Pro - The menu creation process, importing asets, adding a background graphic, creating buttons on a still menu, making connections from buttons to video, using the title safe feature, adding title and text to the menu, adding sound to the menu, setting up navigation on your DVD, changing the still menu in a Motion menu.

5) Creating A Chapter Index Menu - Customising a default chapter index menu, setting up the chapter index navigation buttons, completing the customised chapterindex menu template, automating the chapter index menu creation process.

6) Creating A Slideshow - File formats for slideshows, adding a slideshow, modifying your slideshow, slideshow transitions, converting a slideshow to a track.

7) Adding Subtitles - Creating subtitles in DVD Studio Pro, modifying the font and colour of subtitles, importing subtitles from a text file, previewing subtitles, creating buttons over video, about Closed Captioning.

8) DVD-ROM Content and DVD@cess - Adding DVD-ROM content to a DVD-Video Disc, creating a weblink with DVD@cess, activating DVD-ROM content with DVD@cess.

9) Finishing Your DVD - Testing your project, building and formatting a DVD, using the Apple DVD player, burning a disc using the burn command, choosing a recordable DVD media, distribution of your completed DVD, designing disc labels and DVD case inserts.

10) Introduction To Encoding - Bit budgeting, using a compressor to encode a file, creating a preset, creating a compressor droplet, encoding using A.Pack.

11) Creating Menus With Overlays - The Tiger DVD project, playing the Tiger DVD with DVD player, creating menus with a simple overlay, creating menus with advanced overlays.

12) Working With Markers And Stories - Working with chapter markers, creating markers in Final Cut Pro, working with markers in DVD Studio Pro, using stories as playlists, creating a story with multiple markers.
