The four-day Directory Services Client/Server course is designed for system administrators and IT professionals who need to gain specific knowledge about directory services, how to effectively configure Mac OS X computers to access directory services, and how to configure Mac OS X Server to provide directory services in a mixed-platform environment. This course is a combination of lecture and hands-on case study exercises that provide practical real-world experience.

Who should attend?
This class is for system administrators who are tasked with configuring computers running Mac OS X to access directory services and providing directory services in a multiplatform environment.

Prerequisites
Students should have the following prerequisite knowledge prior to attending this course:

• Completion of Mac OS X Support Essentials v10.4 and Mac OS X Server Essentials v10.4 or equivalent
• Understanding of basic IP networking, including IP addresses, subnet masks, ports and protocols
• Working familiarity with the command line interface

Apple Certified System Administration Certification
The Directory Services Integration and Administration v10.4 Exam (9L0-611) addresses objectives for both Mac OS X Client and Mac OS X Server. Successful completion of this exam earns Directory Services Integration and Administration certification and also earns 4 credits toward Apple Certified System Administrator (ACSA) certification. A total of 7 credits is required for the ACSA certification.

Accessing Local Directory Services: Understanding the architecture of Open Directory in Mac OS X and its process architecture to customize Open Directorys behavior.

Accessing Mac OS X Server Directory Services:Configuring Mac OS X computers to access directory services provided by Mac OS X Server.

Accessing Third-Party Directory Services: Configuring Mac OS X computers to access directory services provided from third-party directory services.

Integrating with Kerberos: Understanding how to configure Mac OS X to authenticate using a Kerberos server.

Accessing Active Directory: Configuring Mac OS X to access configuration data provided by Active Directory servers.
  Providing Directory Services with OpenLDAP: Using Open Directory server to provide user account information with LDAPv3 directory services. Populating Open Directory to contain contact information for use with Address Book or other standard LDAP clients.

Providing Single Sign-on Authentication: Configuring Open Directory servers LDAP, Kerberos, and SASL password server to provide an integrated network authentication solution.

Integrating Kerberos Services: Configuring Mac OS X Server to work with third- party Kerberos services.management.

Replicating Open Directory Services: Replicating Open Directory data and passwords for redundancy and load-balancing.

Planning and Deploying Directory Services:Combining skills learned to create a directory services deployment solution.
