Course Overview

Influence and Persuade is a 2-day course that improves your ability to achieve buy-in and agreement, specifically with non-technical people in meetings and presentations. You’ll learn the powerful frameworks and formulas that other business professionals use in order to convince and influence in a way that isn’t pushy or arrogant.

This course exposes you to the remarkable techniques that get others agreeing, buying into and taking onboard the ideas and solutions you share during meetings and presentations.

  • Day one teaches you how to be credible, charismatic and convincing. You’ll learn how to share your (often complex) technical ideas and solutions in a way that others find easy to understand and are willing to support & get involved with.
  • Day two gives you even more persuasive power. You’ll learn a range of techniques & frameworks to influence others so that you get more of what you want.

By the end of the course you’ll have non-technical colleagues, managers, leaders and clients taking you seriously, agreeing with you and fully supporting your ideas and solutions.

This 2-day workshop is detailed, practical and hands-on and is led by our specialist training partner, The Skills Farm, winners of the Apple Spirit of Business award in 2013.

So, this course teaches you the simple, tried & tested methods for persuading others. You’ll come away from the course having mastered the ability to convince, influence and persuade non-technical people.

Pre-requisites

The course is designed for technical professionals that need to influence & persuade non-technical people in a business setting – usually meetings and/or presentations. There are no prerequisites as such, however you may find it useful to attend the Communicate with Impact course, prior to attending Influence and Persuade.

For this course you will be asked to pre-prepare an idea or solution (a brief talk and/or presentation) that you hope will persuade non-technical colleagues, managers, leaders or clients in the coming days or weeks.

The material assumes you have some previous experience of speaking up in front of non-technical audiences – but it is not essential.

ScottSince I was a boy, I’ve always been captivated by live TV and radio. What fascinated me the most was the fact that, being live, anything could happen – and often did! How did the presenters stay so cool and know what to say?

Inspired, I can remember presenting mock live TV shows in my bedroom and making radio broadcasts onto a cassette recorder. I interviewed imaginary celebrities and interacted with invisible members of the public who called in.

Fast-forward to my twenties and thirties and I was live on air presenting real radio shows in real radio studios. Phone-in’s were my favourite because I was able to interact live with the public – and of course being live – there was always that element of danger. I thrived on it.

Nowadays of course, I teach others how to have personal impact in their most visible moments. Knowing what to say, when and how to say it in meetings and presentations is just as important for leaders and managers as it is for TV & radio presenters – it’s just a different kind of ‘live’ communication.

And that’s what inspires me now. To teach a senior manager to skilfully influence her leadership team, or a leader to masterfully engage an audience at a business conference, fills me with energy.

To chill out, I walk, especially around this incredible city of ours – London. I never take the same street twice, there is always something new to explore and discover. It’s the perfect way to unwind after an energetic day or two of training.

And who knows – in London – anything can happen!

Jamie SummersI have been designing and delivering training for almost 10 years now and its something that takes a lot of energy. So who is the Jamie that you don’t see in the classroom?

I have always found it a challenge to keep my mental energy at a constant level especially when I am delivering a lot of workshops back to back.

Because our philosophy is to get it right fist time round we put a lot of effort into the planning, design and execution of our work.

Over the years I have tried various sports to focus my mind, running worked for a while but my knees didn’t like it. I also did tried the gym and various other fads that didn’t stick.

In 2013 a friend said to me “Jamie – you could never hack Hot Yoga, it would kill you”. Like a red rag to a bull, I signed up and have been practicing regularly for over two years. Especially if it has been a tough day I will drag myself off to a hot yoga studio and refocus my mind. One of the most inspirational teachers I have met on my Yoga journey is beautiful lady called Naomi Clark she got me into Yoga Nidra mediation – talk about being chilled!!

So next time you attend one of my workshops if you think I am on the ball then I only have my yoga to thank.
We have two Spaniels that also like to keep us busy. Margo and Mr Biscuits play a big part in the success of The Skills Farm. Without them who would answer the phones?
