Course Overview

Do you have a large Mac collection and require a reliable way to service these machines in-house if the hardware fails? Do you aim to work for an Apple Store as a Genius or work for an Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP)? If the answer is yes, you need to become Apple Hardware Certified.

Apple Certified Mac Technician (ACMT) certification verifies your ability to perform basic troubleshooting and repair of both desktop and portable Mac systems, such as iMac and MacBook Pro.
 The ACMT certification exams emphasise identifying and resolving common OS X problems, and using Apple Service and Support products and practices to effectively repair Apple hardware.

The course is a mixture of leader-led theory and extensive hands on practicals, including take apart sessions on the latest Apple desktop and portable hardware.

 

Prerequisites

Some basic knowledge of using a computer. (Mac OS X preferred)

Who should seek ACMT certification?

ACMT certification is intended for:

  • Technicians employed by an Apple Store, Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) or Self Servicing Account (SSA)
  • Persons motivated to demonstrate their knowledge of technician-level service and support skills
  • For persons not employed by Apple directly or by an AASP or SSA, attaining ACMT certification verifies skills and knowledge that may be sought by a prospective employer, such as an Apple Reseller or a self-servicing entity like a school

Overview

  • Comprehensive understanding of the Apple Desktop and Portable Range. Their specifications, key features and hardware troubleshooting and repair
  • Complete training on how to troubleshoot the hardware inside the Apple Desktop and Portable Range
  • Overall understanding of Computer technologies including Apple specific technologies
  • Product knowledge and troubleshooting of the Apple Wireless networking range
  • Demonstrations by certified Apple Hardware Trainers on repair techniques
  • Instructor led extensive student hands on take apart labs with the current Apple Desktop and Portable Range
  • Overview of the current OS X Operation System (El Capitan v10.11) including installation, features, configuration and troubleshooting.

  • Looking at online tools, such as Global Service Exchange (GSX), Apple Technical Learning Administration System (ATLAS), Apple Support Articles (Knowledge Base) and the Discussion Boards.

  • Identify any hardware or software requirements to use or upgrade a Mac, using the Apple Support Site

Please note that ACMT certification by itself does not allow a technician to order Apple parts. Apple parts are ordered via the GSX system, which only AASP’s and Self Certified Repair centres have access too. Information on becoming authorized for servicing Apple products can be found here.

The ACMT Certification

To become an Apple Certified Macintosh Technician (ACMT) you must complete one hardware and one software exam (as a minimum).

  1. Apple Certified Macintosh Service Exam, (SVC-16A) hardware exam tests your understanding on how Mac devices function and how to troubleshoot them
  2. Mac OS X v10.11 Troubleshooting Exam, (Mac-16A) ensures that you possess the knowledge to quickly and efficiently differentiate between software and hardware issues. This exam is specific to the Mac Operating System (OS X v10.10)
